Autonomic configuration and recovery in a mobile agent-based distributed event monitoring system

چکیده
In this paper we present a framework for building policy-based autonomic distributed agent systems. The autonomic mechanisms of configuration and recovery are supported through a distributed event processing model and a set of policy enforcement mechanisms embedded in an agent framework. Policies are event-driven rules derived from the system’s functional and non-functional requirements. Agents in the network monitor the system state for policy violation conditions, generate appropriate events, and communicate them to other agents for cooperative filtering, aggregation, and handling. A set of agents perform policy enforcement actions whenever events signifying any policy violation conditions occur. Policies are defined using a specification framework based on XML. The policy enforcement agents interpret the policies given in XML. We illustrate the utility of this framework in the context of an agent-based distributed network monitoring application. We also present an experimental evaluation of our approach. Copyright c © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

متن کاملAwareness and Agility for Autonomic Distributed Systems: Platform-Independent Publish-Subscribe Event-Based Communication for Mobile Agents
We propose using the publish-subscribe model to complement proprietary or standard agent communication languages, useful particularly in the case of exchanging and disseminating short communications about events and consequently, reducing complexity of multi-agent messaging. We describe how we implemented the event notification mechanism for mobile agents, and analyse experiments that demonstra...
متن کاملAwareness and Agility for Autonomic Distributed Systems: Platform-Independent Publish-Subscribe Event-Based Communication with Mobile Agents
Mobile agent communication in multi-agent communities where agents come from different heterogeneous toolkits and platforms is still very much a research challenge. We propose to use the publishsubscribe model as complementary (and sometimes alternative) to proprietary or standard agent communication languages, useful particularly in the case of exchanging and disseminating short communications...
متن کاملEnhancing an Autonomic Cloud Architecture with Mobile Agents
In cloud environments application scheduling, i.e., the matching of applications with the resources they need to be executed, is a hot research topic. Autonomic computing provides viable solutions to implement robust architectures that are enough flexible to tackle scheduling problems. CHASE is a framework based on an autonomic engine, designed to optimize resource management in clouds, grids o...
متن کاملA Formal Petri Net Based Model for Antivirus Update Agent System
In this paper, a formal model for antivirus update agent system is presented based on mobile agent technology and predicate/transition Petri nets. The mobile agent system contains two mobile agents called DCA and UNA. It sends out agents to update antivirus on client computers in a network. Each agent takes on a specified responsibility. First, DCA roams through the network and check the last d...
